Senior Hockey
With the exception of the Western
Canada Hockey League of the 1920s, Alberta was a bastion
of amateur hockey.
From the days that hockey was first
played on Calgary’s Bow River to the great outdoor
Thistle Rink that drew thousands of Edmontonians, to the
great Allan Cup-winning Calgary and Edmonton teams of
the 1940s, senior amateur hockey provided this province
with many great tales of men who played not for money,
but for love of the game.
We will take a look at some of the
great teams from the golden age of hockey in the
province, from the Dominions and Superiors which ruled
over Edmonton to the Calgary Vics club that caused so
much controversy.
