Leo LeClerc
In 1951, Leo LeClerc became the
driving force behind the
Edmonton Oil Kings. Not only was he the general
manager of this new elite junior hockey club, he also
helped design the jerseys. LeClerc, under the watchful
eye of the Detroit Red Wings, nurtured Western Canada’s
best hockey talent, from Norm Ullman to John Bucyk.
In 1963, LeClerc finally led the Oil
Kings to the
Memorial Cup title However, his most impressive
legacy, is that two of the greatest hockey coaches and
managers the game had ever seen, Pat Quinn and Glen
Sather, both played under him that year.
