Events
The 1990s and beyond saw the Oilers
change gears. No longer was the team expected to win the
Stanley Cup each season, but in a new 30-team NHL,
Oiler fans were putting
more importance on the regular season. As a result, new
rivals began to emerge.
This section examines the
rise of the Dallas Stars as
the Oilers’ most heated rival
entering the 21st century, and how the longstanding
Battle of Alberta changed over the years. Other
events include the Heritage
Classic, a move back to the outdoors, where hockey
first began.
