Owners
The past owners of the Edmonton
Oilers have been a varied group, which includes the original man
in charge, Dr. Charles
Allard, to the incomparable Peter
Pocklington, an opinionated entrepreneur who was at the
helm in the franchise’s dynasty years. By 1997, "Peter
Puck" put the team up for sale and with the all-too-real
chance of the Oilers leaving Edmonton for Houston, a
group of 38 investors, led by Cal Nichols, stepped up
and bought the team. On March 13, 1998, the Edmonton
Invertors Group committed to the purchase with a down
payment of $5,000,000, ushering in a new era in team
history and preventing the proud franchise from
suffering the same fate as Canadian teams in Quebec City
and Winnipeg. In this section, we will take a look at
these four very different ownership groups and
individuals.
