Core values
The program includes curriculum
characteristics that apply to all grade levels.
Mathematics will offer opportunities
to use concrete experiences for measurement, large
number awareness, problem solving, variables and data
analyses (collection).
The health component of the program
will focus on safety and responsibility in communities
and sport. Attention will also be given to life roles
and career development, goal setting and volunteerism.
Physical education portions of the
program include the daily walking and moving that fuel a
healthy lifestyle.
In language arts, students write
journals and record information. The process allows time
to experience feelings, predictions and ideas. There are
opportunities to work in pairs or groups while
interviewing, organizing, listening and reading a wide
variety of information.
In the art component of the program,
students record surroundings and details, while also
examining logos and symbols in terms of their function
and aesthetics.
Key themes include teamwork,
technology, heroes, builders and Hockey Night in
Canada.
